Ferris Bueller does the Super Bowl?

January 27th, 2012

A 10-second teaser for an upcoming Super Bowl commercial shows a modern-day Matthew Broderickopening bedroom curtains, turning to the camera, and saying, “How can I handle work on a day like today?” Then the familiar “boom-boom-chick-chicka-chickah” music from the John Hughes movie plays over a black screen that reads, “2.5.12″ (the date of the Super Bowl).

So now everyone is wondering if the clip might indicate that a sequel to “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” is in the works. Not so. Reports indicate that it’s actually a sneak peek at a commercial for Honda. According to internet reports,  the commercial, which was directed by Todd Phillips of “The Hangover,” will feature a Honda CR-V doing the same kind of stunts Ferris and Cameron did in Cameron’s dad’s 1961 Ferrari 250GT California. Much of the commercial will mimick shots from the 1986 film.

The idea of the inspirational, rebellious, take-no-gruff Ferris driving a mini-SUV may seem a little sad to some….Judging by the buzz around the teaser, Ferris hasn’t lost his popularity. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, bloods, wastoids, dweebies — they all adore him.

Who doesn’t love Ferris Bueller?

Kim Kardashian learns Cher is not dead

January 27th, 2012

http://tvandmoviereviews.com/1272012 movies trailers and more

Kim Kardashian got quite a scare last evening, as a completely false rumor about Cher’s death spread on Twitter. Yup, this is yetanother celebrity death hoax story!

“Did I juist hear Cher has passed away? Is this real? OMG,” Kardashiantweeted. We should all notice that Kardashian’s misspelling of “just” has been maintained to accurately depict her state of mind upon hearing the rumor.] “I hope this is a twitter joke and not true. I don’t see it on the news anywhere. I’m praying its not true…”

Perhaps, before tweeting this to her 12.8 million followers, Kardashian could have done a little digging. It seems the rumor began when Twitter user Lorraine_Star sent a tweet falsely attributed to CNN: “RT @CNN: American recording artist Cher dies at 65 years old. Found dead in Malibu home.” Then, like all good Twitter rumors, it spread to the point that it became a trending topic, “RIP Cher.”

About an hour after sending her first Cher-related tweets, Kardashian learned the truth: “Can’t believe people would make up a sick joke like Cher died. These people need to get a life! Thanks twitter for clearing that up!”

Check out this video of Kim Kardashian co hosting with Kelly Ripa on Live with Kelly last week.   Let’s talk…

Deadliest Catch update

January 26th, 2012

http://tvandmoviereviews.com/7262011 movies trailers and more

“Deadliest Catch” is getting  ready to wrap Season 7 — aka, The First Season After the TV-Time Death of Beloved Captain Phil Harris— the premieres of its episodes are averaging about 4.2 million viewers – down about 21 percent compared to the last, overwrought season.

In last week’s penultimate episode, the show’s Capt. Keith Colburn, winner of this season’s Saltiest Vocabulary Competition, engaged in a juicily worded physical scuffle with one of the show’s own cameramen, when the  camerman called the captain on the ship’s phone to try to find the show producer… Who does that, right?

You know how it is when a cameraman interrupts you as you’re doing your close-up, in which you are delivering a hum-dinger of a soliloquy about, well, yourself. Anyway, tempers flew — and so did the cameraman, when Cussin’ Capt. Keith Colburn started shoving him around…

TV and Movie Reviews presents The Perks of Being a Wall Flower

January 26th, 2012

http://tvandmoviereviews.com/05102011 movies, trailers and more

It’s one of those books that should’ve been adapted awhile ago, but it looks like Hollywood is just getting around to turning ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower‘ into a major feature film. The folks over at Summit Entertainment have wisely picked up the film rights to the book, and assigned Logan Lerman (aka the boy who was almost Spider-Man) and Emma Watson (hot off her seven-film stint in the ‘Harry Potter’ movies) the task of bringing the coming-

Two things to know about the book…. There was lots of crying on the part of the main character, Charlie, and 2. It was really, really good. Lerman will play 15-year-old Charlie, a naive outsider who’s stuck in that time between being a kid and learning to become an adult. Naturally there’s tons of romantic awkwardness (cue Watson) and some pretty heavy emotional heartache to overcome (Charlie must deal with the suicide of his best friend throughout), but author Stephen Chbosky — who’s been tasked with writing and directing the film — pulls it all off beautifully.

Funny, touching, sincere and ridiculously heartfelt, ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ could come along at a time when our coming-of-age movies are lacking truthfulness and emotional endurance. Seeing as Summit put Chbosky in charge of the whole bag of worms, we feel secure in him delivering an adaptation that lives up to the book, which, at 213 pages, should be easier to adapt than one of those monster 700-page epics.

James Franco plans to pursue a second PhD in Literature and Creative Writing, this time at the University of Houston, the school has confirmed.

The communications director of the Texas University confirmed that Franco had deferred his admission until Fall 2012. The University of Houston Creative Writing program has been consistently rated one of the top writing programs in the country. The school says that out of 400 applicants, only 20 are accepted to the program.

“James Franco was scheduled to enter the PhD program in Literature and Creative Writing in Fall 2011, but he requested a deferral for an additional year, which the faculty granted,” a University of Houston spokesman told Us Weekly. “So he is now scheduled to begin doctoral work here in fall 2012.”

Franco, 33, is currently working on a PhD in English at Yale University. The actor received his Master of Fine Arts at Columbia University in 2010 while simultaneously studying film at New York University and Creative Writing at Brooklyn College.

Franco received his Undergraduate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2008, completing his course load in just two years after receiving permission to take up to 62 credits per quarter, while the regular allowance is 19 credits. While at UCLA, the actor continued working on movies and maintained a GPA above 3.5, In February, Franco co-hosted the 2011 Academy Awards with Anne Hathaway. He also recently reprised his character of serial killer Franco on the ABC soap opera “General Hospital.”

In the fall, Franco published a book of short stories called “Palo Alto: Stories,” named after his California hometown.

In early February, OnTheRedCarpet.com confirmed that the actor will be teaching a college course based on his career called “Master Class: Editing James Franco … with James Franco.”

James Franco got his big break with Judd Apatow’s beloved, but short-lived TV series “Freaks and Geeks” but didn’t reach mainstream consciousness until 2002′s “Spider-Man.” He received an Oscar-nomination for his 2010 film “127 Hours” and has also appeared in films like “Milk,” “Pineapple Express” and most recently in the medieval comedy, “Your Highness.”

The busy actor also has six movies in production and another seven in development.

TV and Movie Reviews presents Last Man Standing

January 26th, 2012

http://tvandmoviereviews.com/8222011 movies trailers and more

Last Man Standing is an upcoming American comedy series starring Tim Allen and Nancy Travis that will air on ABC. ABC announced on May 17, 2011, that the series would air on Tuesday nights at 8/7 Central, beginning this fall. It is expected to debut on October 11, 2011, with a one-hour premiere.

Tim Allen was once the living breathing definition of broad, commercial television. But in an era where 1990′s TV icons from Kelsey Grammer to Paul Reiser have stumbled, does the former Home Improvement star have what it takes to cut through today’s clutter?

ABC, which his betting big on Allen’s return-to-TV vehicle Last Man Standing, is certainly hoping so. The network propped up by female viewers is looking to lure male — and for that matter, more — eyeballs with an Allen sitcom about a man grasping for his masculinity in a family of four women.

Allen says that he went back to ABC, which he calls a “tighter leaner ship” than the the same network of the 1990s, and told its executives that it had to adjust its expectations.

Still, he’s eager to give the small screen another shot, claiming he was lured back by TV’s structure and the desire to flip-flop the Improvement premise. “It’s not rocket science that I’m doing here,” he says, adding “instead of tools, it’s sporting goods, guns, ATVs and boats, and I come home to four women.”

I have to admit that the Home Improvement re-runs still catch my attention and are amusing.

TV and Movie Reviews Tribute to Lucile Ball

January 26th, 2012

http://tvandmoviereviews.com/wp-admin/post-new.php

We still love Lucy: The television star of the classic sitcom “I Love Lucy”
would have been 100 on Saturday. The whacky red head played Lucy Ricardo, the
wife of Ricky (her real-life husband, Desi Arnaz). The show that has been in
syndication for decades celebrates its 60th anniversary this year

Lucille Ball’s New York hometown will be filled with red-lipsticked, redheaded lookalikes on Saturday to try to break a world record in honor of what would have been the actress’ 100th birthday.

Scores of people trying to mimic Lucy’s distinctive look as TV persona Lucy Ricardo were expected to gather in Jamestown in western New York state to topple the world record for gathering the most Lucy lookalikes.

The event takes place on the fourth day of a five-day comedy festival in her name and was organized by the town’s not-for-profit Lucille Ball/Desi Arnaz Center.

The day will feature performances by comic Paula Poundstone as well as Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel impersonators, the main characters from the hit sitcom “I Love Lucy,” which ran from 1951 to 1957 and has been seen for decades since in reruns.

If you go to the Festival you can watch episodes of the beloved show under the stars, take a cemetery tour of Ball’s final resting place, and dine in the “Tropicana Room,” a re-creation of her TV husband Ricky Ricardo’s famous Manhattan night club. Ricky was played by Ball’s husband, Desi Arnaz.

Earlier in the week, the festival included an appearance by comedian Joan Rivers and the unveiling of the studio door for CBS Studio A in Hollywood where Ball and Arnaz made their very first appearance on TV together in 1949 and where they later shot the “I Love Lucy” pilot in 1951.

The non-profit group that organized the festival says that its mission is to preserve the Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz legacy and enrich the world through a commitment to the development of the comedic arts.

The Lucy legacy has had an impact on Jamestown, about 80 miles south of Buffalo, as evidenced by the many city institutions and other venues bearing her name.

Events conclude on Sunday with a picnic at Lucille Ball Memorial Park where graduates of Friday’s Comedy College will perform at the Desi Arnaz Memorial Bandshell.

Please enjoy this clip from a classic I Love Lucy episode and leave your comments here!

Demi Lovato back and on the charts

January 26th, 2012

http://tvandmoviereviews.com/7122011 movies trailers and more

Demetria Devonne “Demi” Lovato[2] (born August 20, 1992) is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and actress. Her earliest roles included Angela on Barney & Friends, before she became better known for her starring roles in the Camp Rock movies, as Sonny Munroe in Sonny with a Chance, and as the star of the 2009 movie Princess Protection Program. She is also involved in philanthropic activities through charity work and various social and environmental causes.

TV and Movie Reviews congratulates demi Lovato for releasing a new single Tuesday, her first major endeavor since she finished rehab earlier this year.The 18-year-old former Disney star sings of overcoming heartbreak against all odds in “Skyscraper,” which quickly made its way to the top of the digital download charts.

“Go  Go on and try to tear me down, I will be rising from the ground. Like a skyscraper, like a skyscraper,” she belts out in the emotional ballad.

“Wow.. Top 10 on iTunes within a matter of hours?!? Definitely can’t sleep now. Unbelievable,” she tweeted to her 3.5 million-plus followers.

The new tune marks a comeback for Lovato, who spent three months at an Illinois clinic last fall getting treatment for an eating disorder, cutting and bi-polar disorder.

She checked into the facility last November after a reported blow-up with a back-up dancer while on tour with Disney’s Jonas Brothers band.

After her release in January, Lovato announced she was leaving her popular Disney TV series “Sonny with a Chance” after two years, to devote more time to her music career. She is currently signed with Disney’s Hollywood Records.

The singer is clearly number one with her fans:  “Skyscraper,” shot to the top of the iTunes charts. The performer told Seventeen Magazine that the song symbolized “my journey from the person I was to the happy healthy person I am today.”
