The Dog Whisperer settles his divorce

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

http://tvandmoviereviews.com/4212012 movies, trailers, in theaters

“Dog Whisperer” host Cesar Millan might need some consolation from man’s best friend after his divorce becomes  finalized.

It has been reported that the self-taught expert dog trainer must pay his ex-wife, Ilusión, a one-time amount of $400,000, a monthly spousal payment of $23,000, and another $10,000 for monthly child support.

That may seem like a huge sum for a basic cable reality TV personality, but Millan can afford it.

The recently filed divorce document indicate that Millan makes $170,000 a month — which is over $2 million a year.  Though he is best known for hosting the National Geographic Channel’s “Dog Whisperer for eight seasons — it has millions of viewers and is broadcast to over 80 countries — the 42-year-old has also authored several best-selling books and runs a Dog Psychology Center. The latteer is a 43-acre mecca he calls “Disneyland for dogs.”

Cesar Millan Inc., which accounts for all of Millan’s ventures outside of his TV show  includes “speaking engagements; executive leadership seminars; a line of organic dog food, fortified water, shampoos and toys … and the charitable foundation financed by an undisclosed percentage of the company’s revenue.”

Ilusion, a Mexican-American who married Millan when she was 18 and he was 24, was very involved in her husband’s career. She helped him run Cesar Millan Inc. and designed the Illusion Collar, which helps control difficult dogs.

The couple, who filed for divorce in June 2010, had been married for 16 years and have two boys together.

The New York Times says the pair separated after the birth of their first son but reconciled. It quotes Ilusión as saying “We’re what I call Mr. Talent and Mrs. Brains. You can’t have one without the other.”

To which Cesar said: “My wife rehabilitated me.”

It is unclear what role Ilusión has had in the various business ventures since the divorce filing, though the charitable Cesar and Ilusión Millan Foundation has been since renamed the Millan Foundation. that Millan “famously came to the U.S. as a young man from his native Mexico with $100 in his pocket and a dream of becoming a famous dog trainer.” Now his client list includes Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith and director Ridley Scott, all of whom needed help with their canines.

Millan, who lives in Los Angeles, became a United States citizen in 2010. He is known for rehabilitating troubled dogs, largely because he “lives in the now and maintains a sort of über-balanced mien,” according to the New York Times.

And he apparently values his privacy. TMZ reports that the divorce documents stipulate that any “intimate, personal and/or private information about the other party … including details of their personal and/or sexual relationships” must remain confidential.  Any “photograph, film, videotape, recording … which is not commercially available” must remain private.

Once Upon A Time brings the romance

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

Eduardo Castro says a lot of his inspiration for the costumes on ABC’s “Once Upon a Time” comes from his own vision of fairy tales growing up.
“There was talk in the beginning of going very modern and avant garde with the fairy tales,” he tells Zap2it. “We have gone more classic but there are elements of Alexander McQueenwe’ve tried to incorporate into the designs.”
“Once Upon a Time” presents a unique opportunity to do fantasy plus modern, which Castro enjoys. The characters are very well defined, so the biggest challenge is having only two or three days to conceptualize a costume, sketch it and get it made.
“We don’t take it literally, we take it as the characters are written,” Castro says. “Snow White (played by Ginnifer Goodwin) obviously is very iconic and romantic. We try to keep her palette very soft and also kind of luxurious in a way because even for television we exaggerate the fact that this normal everyday person is wearing kind of expensive clothes.”
It takes a lot of talent to dress the fairest of them all, and Castro shares the thinking behind a few of her looks:
This is Snow White’s bandit look. All of a sudden the writers said she should be badass, she’s going to be a bandit and fighting for her life in the forest. We were very, very fortunate.
“I’m going to tell you some secrets you wouldn’t believe. Her pants are modern: They are Rag & Bone riding pants with laces in the sides. The blouse is Tory Burch, linen with ruffles. We patch-worked the tunic together with pieces of suede and leather and hand-stitched it very rough-hewn with big stitches. We all thought it would just be in one episode and in the end it’s the costume she’s worn for so long and we had to make six of them.
“We had a belt that we made and the gauntlet gloves. The boots are John Fluevog, who is Canadian and a wonderful bootmaker who has a very periodlike handle on things. He has those period kind of heels and he makes short boots we use on Rumpelstiltskin as well.
“She wore a heavy linen cape, dark green. And we added a fur collar to the tunic and to finish the look. Ginnifer loves wearing that and playing the character so she is not so nicey-nicey.”

TV and Movie Reviews has your Daily Dispatch of Celebrity News

A Meeting Of Minds ?   The White House Correspondents’ Dinner was a star-studded affair this weekend with names like George Clooney, Reese Witherspoon and numerous actors from “The Hunger Games,” but former presidential hopeful Rick Santorum was left in awe of… Lindsay Lohan? According to reports, Rick asked the actress to take a photo of him with Greta Van Susteren – who invited LiLo to the event – and then Rick reportedly asked to take a photo of just Lindsay solo, using his camera. The actress reportedly smiled and agreed to have her photo taken by Rick. But when Rick was asked about snapping a pic of the headline-maker, his memory was a bit foggy. “I took a picture of a lot of people today,” he said while exiting the event. Wonder if Santorum and Lohan both forgot?

So do you think Santorum and Lohan will be in the news more later?

Miley Cyrus says NOT engaged

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

http://tvandmoviereviews.com/3262012 movies, trailers, in theaters

According to Miley Cyrus, she and beau Liam Hemsworth are not engaged. The 19-year-old had been proudly showing off a ring on her left ring finger everywhere from her Twitter page to the red carpet at Muhammad Ali’s Celebrity Fight Night over the weekend. After playing coy for days about whether or not she was engaged, Cyrus finally came clean. “I’m not engaged,” she tweeted on Monday. “I’ve worn this same ring on this finger since November! People just wanna find something to [talk] about! It’s a topaz people!”

Although topazes are typically a color (reddish-orange, yellow, or blue are common), true forms of the gemstone are clear, like Cyrus’s, which led to the confusion — especially since she was wearing it on her ring finger. Cyrus started it all last Thursday when the singer-actress posted a photo of her new manicure on Twitter. “I am soooo obsessed with @jennahipp nail foundations!” she wrote, along with the pic, which featured the huge rock. Although reports of an engagement spread like wildfire all over the internet, Cyrus remained mum — and then wore the ring again.

Although the couple split briefly in 2010, within months they had reconciled — and now appear to be stronger than ever. She was by his side at the Los Angeles premiere of “The Hunger Games” on March 13, and when asked what she thought was the hardest part of filming for her boyfriend, Cyrus told  reporters ”I think the hardest part for Liam was being away from me.”

Taylor Swift responds to prom date request..and asked him out!!

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

http://tvandmoviereviews.com/2262012 movies trailers, in theaters

What makes 18-year-old Kevin McGuire from Somerdale, New Jersey any different from the pack of Taylor Swift’s would-be suitors?

Well, there are a few things, but, let’s just say,McGuire, who recently asked Swift via Facebook to be his prom date in June, stands out for the response he got. Swift declined the offer…but asked him to accompany her to a prestigious awards show in April, instead!

How did this all happen? The backstory: McGuire has had a painful struggle with leukemia since he was 13 years old. He went into remission in 2010, but sadly relapsed and is currently battling cancer for a second time.

His older sister, Victoria, impressed with her brother’s bravery and character, started a Facebook campaign with the hope of granting his greatest wish–convincing Swift to attend prom with him.

“All throughout Kevin’s treatment he kept his character intact, remained playing basketball, and even started varsity football as a freshman,” Victoria McGuire explained on Facebook. “Kevin is the kindest, most noble 18-year-old a person could even fathom meeting, and through out his ups and downs Kevin never even questioned ‘why me?’

“Nothing, and I mean NOTHING brightens Kevin’s day more than Taylor Swift,” she continued. “Kevin DESERVES more than anyone a special event in his life.”

Big sister Victoria’s idea caught the attention of local news, who interviewed her about it. “[Kevin] said ‘who would want to go to the prom with me? I am going to be bald, my appearance is going to change,’” she told news reporters.  ”We both looked at each other and I said, ‘What if I got Taylor Swift to go to the prom with you?’”

After the campaign attracted responses from nearly 90,000 people, Swift herself responded to McGuire’s sister’s plea on her own Facebook Account this past Friday. She politely declined his offer to go to prom, but asked, “I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming up.. Would you be my date?”

The startled teenager told local news after reading the post in a bed at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia that he didn’t know what to say. “I was just trying not to throw up.” (He recovered enough composure to accept the invitation, provided he’s feeling well enough when the date arrives.)

The Academy of Country Music Awards will take place April 1 in Las Vegas. Check out this video of Taylor Swift and leave your comments at TV and Movie Reviews!

TV and Movie Reviews presents The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

http://tvandmoviereviews.com/4202012 movies, trailers,in theaters

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is the first film in Columbia Pictures’ three-picture adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s literary blockbuster The Millennium Trilogy. Directed by David Fincher and starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, the film is based on the first novel in the trilogy, which altogether have sold 50 million copies in 46 countries and become a worldwide phenomenon.

Not really a surprise that critics are loving this. The latest review I read said “ Brutal yet captivating, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is the result of David Fincher working at his lurid best with total role commitment from star Rooney Mara.”

Check out the trailer for The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo and then get your tickets and leave your comments here at TV and Movie Reviews.

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher an item?

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

http://tvandmoviereviews.com/4182012 movies, trailers, in theaters

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have been friends for a long time, having worked on “That ’70s Show” together for years. But recent hang time for the buddies has rumors flying that there may be more to the friendship than meets the eye, especially since they’re both (sort of) newly single; Kutcher split from wife Demi Moore late last year and Kunis hasn’t been seriously linked to anyone since she ended her 8-year long relationship with Macaulay Culkin in late 2010.

Fox recently announced an anniversary special to air on the 22nd which will feature appearances by some of the best-loved characters from Fox shows of the past, including “Beverly Hills, 90210″, “In Living Color”, “Married…With Children” and of course, “That ’70s Show”. Since Kutcher and Kunis both signed on to participate, it’s not hard to imagine that their “date”–which involved furniture shopping before the pair headed to Kutcher’s new house–was actually just the two of them hanging out after sharing some nostalgia while filming the reunion.

A rep for Mila Kunis denied the romance, saying, “No! They’re so not dating. They’ve been friends for years.”

TV and Movie Reviews wants to hear from you.. Do you think Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have started something up?

American Idol hopeful takes a fall!

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

http://tvandmoviereviews.com/292012 movies trailers, in theaters

Just like that, season 11 of “American Idol” has shifted gears into phase two.
Hollywood Week” is upon us, as 309 hopefuls look to continue crooning their way toward the live performances for a shot at stealing America’s heart.

Three-hundred and nine. That’s a lot. Thus, Wednesday provided its share of sniffling, weeping, pride-swallowing contestants who, despite surviving the auditions, just weren’t good enough.

Still, there were some definite surprises during Wednesday’s show, both with regard to the contestants, their triumphs, and, in one memorable instance, their stumbles.

American Idol’s cliffhanger on Wednesday night’s episode had nothing to do  with singing.

The first episode of Hollywood week for the show’s 68 contestants was overshadowed by one Idol hopeful’s scary  fall right off the stage. (VIDEO BELOW)

Symone Black, 16, from California had just finished singing “(Sittin’ On) the  Dock of the Bay” by Otis Redding, much to the delight of the judges, when she  started to touch her head, stumble around the stage, until seconds later she  fell right off.

It appeared she fell head first and onto a camera man kneeling at the foot of  the stage. Her father is shown sprinting towards the stage.

“Oh My God,” Jennifer Lopez said.

“She hit her head,” Steven Tyler said.

Then it was time to cue the dramatics. Someone is heard saying “Medic  Please,” and “Daddy is coming right now.”  The judges are seen hovering  over as producers, medics, and Black’s father tend to the fallen teen. A quick  camera shot is taken of Black opening her eyes as her father clings to his  daughter.

Then cue end of episode. TV and Movie Reviews wishes Simone Black a quick recovery!

Other notable moments included the performance from Jane Carrey, daughter of  Jim Carrey, Jen Hirsh, who sang a song by folkie Patty Griffin, and Johnny  Keyser who sang “Dreaming” by Amos Lee.

Oscar talk at TV and Movie Reviews

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

http://tvandmoviereviews.com/2262012 movies trailers, in theaters

As Hollywood’s biggest night draws near, there’s only one question in mind: Who will take home the Oscar?

Celebrities will walk the red carpet and take their seats on Sunday for the 84th Academy Awards  set to begin at 8:30 p.m. ET on February 26, 2012. The show will be broadcast on ABC, and Billy Crystal will do the hosting honors for the first time since 2004.

Viewers eager to see their favorite stars on the red carpet can tune in to ABC at 7 p.m. ET and watch celebrities arrive at the Los Angeles venue. Stations such as TV Guide and E! will also be reporting from the red carpet.

If you’re not near a television, there’s no need to miss out on the Oscars action. Check for footage of your favorite actors in the audience, lobby, the winners’ walk and more.

And this year, nine nominees vie for Best Picture are : “The Artist”, “The Descandants” “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close”, “The Help”, “Hugo”, “Midnight In Paris”, “Moneyball”, “The Tree of Life” and “War Horse.”

The Artist might be the first silent picture to take home as Oscar for Best Picture since the first Academy Awards. “Wings,” a World War I film, took home the honor in 1929.

Just ahead of the 84th Academy Awards, however, money problems signaled the end for one Oscars staple.

The Kodak Theatre has been host to the Oscars since 2002, but with recent financial hardships, Eastman Kodak Co. has had to forfeit sponsorship of the venue, the Associated Press reports. The location will be referred to as the “Hollywood & Highland Center” during the show.

The first Academy Awards ceremony was held at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotal  in 1929. The Academy began using sealed envelopes in 1941, after the Los Angeles Times broke embargo and published the names of the winners in its evening edition on the night of the awards in 1940.
